        The fans in attendance at Misano from 22 to 24 October are in for an emotional weekend, as the world championship returns to the Riviera for the Made in Italy and Emilia Romagna GP. A tree for Marco  The race will take place at the track dedicated to Marco Simoncelli, exactly ten years after his passing. And so it is fitting that on Saturday 23, a special event will mark the anniversary of Sic&rsquo;s tragic death. After the qualifying session, a ceremony will be held at the Quercia turn, where an oak tree (the Italian word 'quercia' meaning oak) will be planted in memory of the Italian rider. A little like Sepang, where a palm was planted close to the corner at which Marco lost his life in 2011. A lap of honour for Fausto  And this won&rsquo;t be the only touching moment as Saturday will also see Luca Gresini head out on track with the Garelli 125 with which his father Fausto won the 125 world title. Luca will be joined by the current Gresini Racing Moto2 and Moto3 riders, who will use a special livery to remember the manager, who passed just a few months ago.         Almost two months have passed since Fausto Gresini passed away on 23 February after a long battle against Covid-19, but his memory lives on stronger than ever. The Gresini family will be at Imola  To honour his memory and the great contribution he made to the world championship as a rider and manager, Dorna has decided to observe a minute&rsquo;s silence at 13:42 on Sunday 18 April. The Formula 1 staff, who are racing at Imola this weekend, in Gresini&rsquo;s hometown, will do the same. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali will be at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari along with Gresini&rsquo;s relatives to observe the minute&rsquo;s silence. At the same time, the Gresini Racing team&rsquo;s bikes, and world championship riders and team members across the three classes will be at the Autodromo dell'Algarve. A wonderful way to remember a man who gave so very much to motorsport. The death and subsequent funeral of Fausto Gresini continue to resonate with the motorcycle world and will probably do so for some time to come. A few days on, and some of Fausto&rsquo;s former riders continue to share their memories, Marco Melandri included. It was thanks to team Gresini that the Italian was able to relaunch his career after two complicated years with Yamaha, finishing in second place overall in 2005, his first year with the team, and enjoying significant success aboard the Honda. Marco has even offered the team his services, in an advisory capacity, should team Gresini be interested.  Melandri&rsquo;s memory   The Italian has opened his personal album of memories, looking back to when he first met Gresini in 2004. Movistar wanted Pedrosa but Gresini pushed for Melandri, with Marco eventually signing a contract with Fausto&rsquo;s team without the intervention of a manager.  &quot;It was at the end of 2004 when we took risks to race together! I turned down Yamaha Tech3 in order to wait for you, you risked everything to push for me rather than Pedrosa, who Movistar wanted - writes Marco &ndash; I had no manager and negotiated the contract with you, with the help of our friend Alberto Vergani. I convinced you that if I finished top three, I&rsquo;d deserve a top rider&rsquo;s salary, reminding you how many factory bikes we&rsquo;d have to beat&hellip; I&rsquo;ll never forget what you said after this photo was taken (victory in Turkey).         The funeral of Fausto Gresini will take place privately. The Italian passed away on Tuesday 23rd February after a long battle against Covid-19 and a brain haemorrhage. Fausto&rsquo;s son Lorenzo confirms this. "Our final farewell to beloved Fausto will take place privately, not because we want that but due to anti-Covid restrictions that do not allow us to have a ceremony with all his fans, as he surely would have wanted&rdquo;, he explains in a post published on Facebook on Thursday evening. "We are working on a live stream so that those who want to participate can do so&rdquo;. Live ceremony on Facebook  Lorenzo&rsquo;s words are seconded by the team: "The last goodbye to Fausto Gresini will take place tomorrow in Imola, privately. He passed away on February 23 at 60 years of age. Unfortunately, it will not be the kind of send-off we would have wanted for our beloved Fausto, given the current restrictions imposed by the ongoing pandemic. As Gresini Racing, and in agreement with his family, we have decided to live stream the ceremony, to allow everybody to participate in this final farewell".         &ldquo;Back then, us Italians were the strongest! You remember guys?&rdquo; It is with these words that six-time world champion Max Biaggi begins on his social media pages, sharing a photo of the starting grid, where he lines up on the front row alongside Loris Capirossi. And the man starting the race is a well-known race director, the unforgettable Paolo Fantini. &ldquo;Vallelunga 1990. My first time riding the GP 125 cc. My friend Loris Capirossi is next to me on the grid. I finished third that day, our friend Doriano Romboni finished second, and Fausto Gresini won the race &ndash; and the championship. And now, more than ever, I say stay strong Fausto!&rdquo; Biaggi addresses his friend Gresini, who continues to battle coronavirus. The news of the day   The race took place on 14 October 1990 and Max Biaggi had just been crowned Italian champion in the 125 Sport Production class. On the 125 grid, Gresini, Romboni and Biaggi lined up in front of Gramigni, Ancona, Giannecchini, Pennacchioli, Omarini, Narduzzi and Arduini. &ldquo;For Fausto Gresini, victory had become like the white whale for Captain Ahab&rdquo;, wrote Motosprint at the time. &ldquo;It's taken him three years to hunt it down again. And he had to work for it, because the Team Pileri rider was up against some stiff competition around the Italian track, up against team-mate Capirossi, Vitali, Romboni and, in the first half of the race, Gramigni and a surprising Massimiliano Biaggi, the nineteen-year old Italian under-21 Sport Production champion, debuting in the world championship with the Honda of Team Del Rio-Matteoni&rdquo;. Capirossi crashed at the Tornantino. Vitali, right behind him, was caught up in the accident and "on edge and very angry, he lashed out as he rejoined the race by kicking Capirossi&rsquo;s bike. An action he immediately regretted and apologised for&rdquo;, reported Motosprint, Dario Ballardini its on-site correspondent for the race.  &ldquo;Underdog&rdquo; Massimiliano Biaggi  &ldquo;The real surprise was Biaggi: third in practice and then third in the race. He had a competitive bike and seized the opportunity without overdoing it, waiting patiently behind the leaders before closing in on Gramigni in the final stages&rdquo;, read Motosprint at the time. &ldquo;It was disaster for the other Team Italia riders, with Paolucci crashing early on, only to be followed by Debbia, Sannone and Fiorillo, who was part of the leading group. Marco Cipriani went on to suffer the same fate&hellip;&rdquo; &ldquo;I haven&rsquo;t won a race since &rsquo;87, the year I won the title&rdquo;, Fausto Gresini told Motosprint after the win, which also assured him of the Italian title. &ldquo;I didn&rsquo;t remember how good it feels, or how to do it.         During this apparent winter break, teams and manufacturers continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes, with Gresini Racing having revealed its MotoGP project. As of 2022 and for a period of five years, the team, headed up by Fausto Gresini, will return as an independent squad having signed an agreement with IRTA. The team will define its plans during 2021, starting with its choice of bike. Various options  Various possibilities are on the horizon, and the two that look most likely relate to Suzuki and Aprilia. Both manufacturers are currently fielding just two bikes and are keen to add another two machines to their respective line-ups in order to be able to collect more data and carry out more comprehensive work. So Gresini Racing might decide to remain with the Italian manufacturer, or take on the challenge with the Japanese giant, the winner of this year&rsquo;s riders&rsquo; title. Alternatively  Otherwise, they would need to wait and see what the Ducati and Yamaha teams might do, seeing as many contracts are up at the end of the 2021. There is also the matter of Valentino Rossi&rsquo;s potential new team. We&rsquo;ll already get a taste of this in 2021, with the arrival of his brother Luca Marini on team Esponsorama (Ducati), which has come to an agreement with Sky Racing Team VR46. We leave out KTM, as it looks pretty certain that the partnership between the Austrian manufacturer and the Tech 3 team is set to continue, while Honda appears to have found the right balance with the LCR team.
