        The 2022 world championship will come to an end with the upcoming Valencia race and then it&rsquo;s time to plan for 2023. At the end of the Sepang race, in which McPhee-Sasaki scored a fantastic double, Biaggi announced the team&rsquo;s retirement from Moto3 and an intention to focus on other projects. And so what exactly does Max Biaggi have in store? We try to put the pieces of the puzzle together to understand what the Italian might have planned for 2023. The tiff with Peter Oettl In September, colleagues at Speedweek highlighted the controversy between Peter Oettl and Max Biaggi regarding who is the actual owner of the Max Racing Team. A debate that has gone on since 2018 in fact, the year in which the pair entered into partnership to create the team (which competed in CEV Moto3 at that time). During the course of this year, however, things got really heated, to the point that both parties presented their evidence to IRTA to clarify the identity of the true owner. The selection committee tasked with checking the documentation deemed Biaggi to be the owner, in that Max served as the team&rsquo;s guarantor. The Italian paid for the entire structure out of his own pocket, signing contracts with Husqvarna and Sterilgarda as well as with Sasaki and McPhee for 2023. But the dispute didn&rsquo;t end there. Oettl has entered into partnership with IntactGP and Liqui-Moly for the Husqvarna team in Moto3 and Moto2, essentially leaving Biaggi with no choice but to announce the end of the adventure for the Max Racing Team in Moto3. A move to Moto2 or a jump straight to MotoGP? The natural evolution for Max Biaggi&rsquo;s team would be a move to Moto2 before progressing to MotoGP but the Italian likes a challenge and so the six-time world champion is considering a double leap, straight to MotoGP. Max Biaggi, as we well know, is an Aprilia ambassador and is often in the garage of the team headed up by Massimo Rivola. In 2023, Aprilia will have a satellite team that is currently linked to Yamaha, or rather WithU RNF. So what does Max Biaggi have to do with the team headed up by Razlan Razali? It&rsquo;s simple. The team&rsquo;s sponsor WithU has bid farewell to MotoGP, making things more than a little complicated for both Razali and Aprilia. And this is where Biaggi would come in with historic sponsor Sterilgarda, which would be ready to serve as the team&rsquo;s main sponsor, carrying on the partnership project between Aprilia and Razali&rsquo;s RNF, and with Max BIaggi as the Noale satellite squad&rsquo;s bona fide team manager next season. The world championship Hall of Fame will this year welcome three new stars, in the shape of five-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo, six-time world champion, Max Biaggi (4 in 250 and 2 in Superbike) and four-time world champion Hugh Anderson.  Although they were in fact inducted into the Hall of Fame back in 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that the official ceremony during which they will receive their &ldquo;MotoGP Legend&rdquo; badges will only take place this year.&nbsp;  Award ceremony locations   The first to receive his badge will be Majorcan Jorge Lorenzo, five-time world champion (2 in 250 e 3 in MotoGP), during the course of the Spanish GP Jerez de la Frontera. It will then be the turn of six-time world champion Max Biaggi (4 titles in 250, 2 in Superbike), who will receive his certificate from Carmelo Ezpeleta during the Mugello race weekend.  The last to collect his sought-after medal will be New Zealander Hugh Anderson, four-time world champion (2 in the 50 class and 2 in 125) during the course of the Australian GP at Phillip Island.  The list of world championship Hall of Fame members continues to grow then with the official entry of Lorenzo, Anderson and Biaggi.         Interviewed by BBC Sport, Max Biaggi has again talked about his rivalry with Valentino Rossi. The years in which the two great champions shared battles and skirmishes are still clear in the mind of the six-time champion: "We were fierce competitors and shared the same nationality, which made for a real rivalry". The Italian continues: "He was very good, you never knew how the races would end. Valentino didn&rsquo;t have many weak points, and it was always great to battle a rider like that. He would adapt his riding style, he was good in the wet and he had strong braking. He didn&rsquo;t have the cleanest style but Rossi sure achieved some great results over the last twenty years".&nbsp; The hard-fought 2001 500 season  The 2001 500 class took the pushing and shoving between Biaggi and Rossi to another level. Max touches on the Australian GP, in which Valentino just beat Max to the line: "He won at Phillip Island, but by just one thousandth of a second. The tiniest of margins, at the end of a fantastic race". The Italian admits he was taken by surprise: "I didn&rsquo;t expect him to be able to pass me on the last lap, and so I finished just behind him. That kind of race really got the adrenaline going. The weather wasn&rsquo;t great, but thousands of fans were there to witness that tremendous battle".         Max Biaggi has admired the bikes with which Valentino Rossi won his nine titles. Yamaha and Honda MotoGPs, the Aprilia 125 and 250s, all strictly two-stroke, alongside the NSR 500, the first steed with which #46 battled his fellow countryman. And for Max, the memories come flooding back: "When I was racing in 250, I&rsquo;d often see riders strapped up along pit lane, with plaster on their arm or leg. Making the move from 250 to 500 was almost scary, although I immediately got on well. Few people could take the bike to the limit, few stood out, and that&rsquo;s why it inspired fear. Those who moved up to 500 were considered heroes&rdquo;. You could feel the difference compared to the other bikes: "The 500 would either even you out or destroy you. When I rode it at Phillip Island, the bike would wheelie even in sixth gear, it was so crazy powerful. But after just two tests, I was already going well. The combination of 250 and Dunlop tyres was comparable to the Michelin-shod 500. I was quick, I felt comfortable in the saddle&rdquo;. Biaggi amassed six world titles throughout his career, four in 250 and two in Superbike. And yet the greatest emotions came with the 500: "The delivery curve was insane, the scream of the engine would get you high, the rear wheel sliding&hellip; certain dynamics will never be repeated, it would be difficult to experience those sensations with four-stroke bikes". Rivalry with Rossi and shared paths  Biaggi raced at international level for 22 years, coming across many strong and charismatic rivals. When Rossi arrived in the 500 class in 2000, the bar was raised once more: "To have had a rival like Rossi meant it felt even better when I was able to beat him. And vice versa, the fact I battled with him boosted his reputation&rdquo;. The fact they are both Italian only heightened the tension. The cover image is from 2001: "Both Italian, there was a real rivalry. But other riders also contributed to making Rossi&rsquo;s career even greater, riders like Casey Stoner, Marc Marquez. Valentino&rsquo;s path was important with relation to mine".         Aleix Espargar&oacute;&rsquo;s third-place finish at the Silverstone GP has boosted the morale of the entire Aprilia team. A result that they had been waiting for ever since 2015, when the Italian manufacturer first landed in the world championship. Max Biaggi had this to say about the latest milestone: &ldquo;Aprilia is a brand that was taking on the Japanese giants right from the early days and now, in the modern era, it&rsquo;s back in the game, having created a RS-GP that is not only beautiful but ultra high-performance too&rdquo;. &ldquo;They know how to build bikes in Noale&rdquo;  For Max, Aleix Espargar&oacute;&rsquo;s result is the fruit of hard work on the part of the entire team and the Italian was quick to share his joy in a Facebook post: &ldquo;Standing out in today&rsquo;s MotoGP is not at all easy. There are six manufacturers, and the rider pool is extremely competitive, so just a few tenths can mean you're outside the points zone. But they know how to build bikes in Noale, they have an unbridled passion that has always allowed them to stand out in racing. And when they get serious in Aprilia, that&rsquo;s when the greatest dreams become a reality&rdquo;. A wonderful MotoGP chapter  Biaggi, who has won three 250 world championships and two SBK titles with Aprilia, goes on to trace the history of the Veneto manufacturer: &ldquo;They dominated in the two-stroke era, and then threw themselves into SBK with my beloved RSV4, an innovative project that still sets a benchmark in the category more than ten years on, and now there&rsquo;s this wonderful MotoGP chapter. The arrival of Massimo Rivola has marked the start of a new era. His mentality has brought what was missing, allowing Romano Albesiano and all the Aprilia technicians to fully express themselves. And the result is a bike that, right from its debut, has shown to be born under a lucky star&rdquo;. &ldquo;Valentino Rossi won&rsquo;t be back to how he was before&rdquo;. This is what Max Biaggi had to say when talking to RTL 102.5, after watching the nine-time champ&rsquo;s fifth race of the season. The Italian crossed the line in eleventh place at Le Mans and has scored points in only two of the five races contested so far. The situation is pretty critical.  Age, an inescapable factor   Biaggi went on to explain: &ldquo;Valentino finished close to the top ten at Le Mans and perhaps this means that he&rsquo;s resolved some of the issues, or that the track offered more favourable characteristics. But he&rsquo;s not the same Rossi&rdquo;.  Other riders continue to move up from the minor classes, which makes age an important factor according to Biaggi: &ldquo;There are many young and fast riders, all just tenths apart. It&rsquo;s so easy to find yourself drop from first to eighth in an instant. MotoGP has become a really impressive championship. In sport, the freshness of youth is almost always fundamental. It&rsquo;s an incalculable value&rdquo;. Rossi turned 42 in February and will soon have to decide as to his future, whether to continue or to hang up his helmet for good.         The 2021 Aprilia All Stars event held at Misano last weekend continues to make the headlines. Although it took place behind closed doors, it was still able to capture the attention of fans all over the world, who were fascinated by the Noale creations on show at the World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. One stand-out model was the legendary 250 two-stroke, a bike that has won so much and that still excites the riders who climb on board, even if it&rsquo;s only for a few exhibition laps. One rider who's done just that is Max Biaggi, a man who has written so many pages of motorcycle history together with the Italian brand. "As you all know, the Aprilia All Stars took place on Saturday and Sunday. Sadly, due to the pandemic, we couldn&rsquo;t invite the public as we did in 2019. A real pity. We hope to be able to enjoy the event together next year&rdquo;, comments the Italian on social media. "A work of art"  "It was a great celebration, organised perfectly and for this I want to thank all the guys at Aprilia for letting me live a dream. Yes, because getting back on the 250cc was a real dream!" Biaggi&rsquo;s love for the legendary 250 lives on: "From early in the morning, when the bike was switched on for the first time in pitlane, the heady smell took me back in time. It&rsquo;s been 25 years but it&rsquo;s still beautiful. That polished frame, a Noale two-stroke icon, which contrasts with the black of the fairings, it&rsquo;s a work of art! You could see from my eyes how happy I was in that moment". And he had no trouble getting back on: "As soon as I sat on the RSW there was that perfect alchemy whereby bike and rider become one. The small tank, the angle of the semi-handlebars, the distance from the saddle, the top fairing and the downward tail that Aprilia brought to the world championship first, make up something that should be patented. Pure joy. As I rode down pitlane, the engine immediately transmitted its incredible vibrations, something unique believe me&rdquo;. "Then at turn one, the real magic began! You only after to think about taking the corner and the bike is already at the kerb, at a crazy speed as well! Compared to a MotoGP or a SBK, the 250 cc two-strokes have much greater speed mid-turn and it&rsquo;s so much fun to go that fast. Then every time you change gear, she responds with a symphony that&rsquo;s like something from an opera. There&rsquo;s no comparison - she&rsquo;s the real Queen!"         Taking centre stage at the Aprilia All Stars event, Max Biaggi was the most successful of the riders in attendance at Misano Adriatico. The Italian holds six world championship titles, five of which he won with the Noale manufacturer (plus one with Honda in 1997), across the 250 and SBK classes. Now a brand ambassador and team manager, Biaggi still loves riding both two and four stroke bikes and continues to keep a close eye on the riders competing in the world championships. Marc M&aacute;rquez, for example, having returned after an extended nine-month break: &ldquo;Incredible &ndash; comments Max &ndash; he did really well, what more can I say? He hadn&rsquo;t ridden for almost a year and then came back at Portimao, a very tough track on a MotoGP bike. It&rsquo;s very physical, especially with today&rsquo;s MotoGP bikes&rdquo;. Max Biaggi: "M&aacute;rquez did an amazing job&rdquo;  And Max knows all about the challenges involved in riding a GP bike to the limit. Marc appears to be moving in the right direction, as Biaggi notes: "Marc did something amazing down there, scoring seventh place, an excellent result, the result of really amazing work". This Sunday the riders head to Jerez, the very track where Marc had his accident and then attempted a premature return to racing. But Max doesn&rsquo;t think this will pose any problem for the Honda rider: &ldquo;Ah, you&rsquo;ll see, he&rsquo;ll be really fast at Angel Nieto, I&rsquo;m sure he&rsquo;ll be fighting for the podium there".         Max Biaggi&rsquo;s record-breaking adventure with electric bikes isn&rsquo;t over. Having set twelve world records last November at a track at the French airport of Chateauroux, the six-time world champion has now announced on social media that he intends to go even further. The Italian&rsquo;s latest goal is to reach a top speed in excess of 410 km/h, improving on his previous record of 408. Max will attempt the feat before the end of 2021, once again riding the full electric Voxan Wattman. Biaggi: "An appealing goal"  "Last year we set various records with the electric Voxan bike, achieving a speed of 408 km/h. The project immediately appealed to me, as no one had ever taken an electric bike to such speeds before. With the aim of further raising the bar, it would be great to break the 410 km/h barrier! To obtain such a result, we&rsquo;ll need to work hard on the aerodynamics, which are fundamental at that kind of speed, and we&rsquo;ll also need to strengthen the electric motor", explains Max. He then asked his fans for their opinions as to his new helmet: "I&rsquo;m thinking to create a helmet with new graphics. Would you like me to go with a previous graphic layout or something totally different? Let me know what you think, because I&rsquo;m sure you&rsquo;ve all got some interesting ideas&rdquo;.         It was the unofficial reigning class of the 90s. The jumps at the Salzburgring, the pushing and shoving at the Nurburgring. The years of the last gasp battle at the &ldquo;Motodrom&rdquo; of Hockenheim. Of Luca Cadalora, Loris Reggiani and Pierfrancesco Chili, followed by Biaggi, Capirossi, Romboni. And then Rossi... This was the 250 class, a hotbed of Italian talent, where the wins were punctuated by some all-out clashes on the bikes. Period of real rivalry, on and off track   1994 was a year of strong hearts, one that would go down in history also for the &ldquo;black&rdquo; Aprilia&rsquo;s title win at the hands of Massimiliano Biaggi. A race to victory characterised by a rivalry between Biaggi, Loris Capirossi and Doriano Romboni, which often saw the riders on the verge of clashing. Like that time in the German GP. All in three turns   The last lap. On entry to the Motodrom, the last, twisting section of the fast Hockenheim circuit, the trio were still very close but also aware that the race might well finish in that order. Each knew the other&rsquo;s moves. Too crafty, too careful, the three &ldquo;phenomenons&rdquo; (as Motosprint called them at the time) knew that they might pay dearly for any gamble they chose to make. &ldquo;Whoever enters the Motodrom first, basically has the race in their grasp&rdquo;, they&rsquo;d say. Everyone knew that. Loris Capirossi arrived first, having passed Max in braking, and now he looked to be on for the win. One turn later, at &ldquo;Sachs&rdquo;, it was Romboni who got the better of Biaggi, in difficulty with the brakes. The podium positions came down to just two turns, after a race in which the trio had been carefully studying each other. The black knight   But a black knight can sometimes have a nasty surprise in store. The knight was the Italian on the black Aprilia, a rider who had thrown down the gauntlet to his strongest rivals that year. &nbsp;A stubborn gauntlet, often irreverent. He didn&rsquo;t want to lose positions and so, left with no other choice, he improvised. At the first of the two turns leading to the line, he attacked Doriano who was forced to run a little wide to avoid any contact. The move ensured that Biaggi crossed the line second, the Aprilia sandwiched between the two Honda NSRs. It had been an exciting finale, but while &ldquo;Capirex&rdquo; enjoyed his (well-deserved) success, sparks flew between &ldquo;Rombo&rdquo; and the &ldquo;Corsaro&rdquo;. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know why he&rsquo;s angry, this is racing, not a classical music concert&rdquo;, exclaimed Massimiliano. Doriano shot back: &ldquo;I hope to repay the courtesy next time&rdquo;. The championship title ultimately went to Biaggi, who handed the Noale manufacturer the first of three consecutive 250 titles. A victory over two rivals who weren&rsquo;t willing to give an inch. An epic year, a year of&hellip; phenomenons. Hockenheim 1994, Biaggi to Romboni: “It’s racing, not classical music”

        There is one episode in Max Biaggi&rsquo;s career that remains impressed on our minds almost as much as his four title wins in the 250 class. We&rsquo;re talking about his famous wheelie across the line at Brno, just after he won the 1998 Czech GP. &nbsp;His rivalry with Doohan  This was Italian rider Massimiliano Biaggi&rsquo;s debut season in the 500 class, following his four consecutive titles in the 250 class between 1994 and 1997. His success brought him to the reigning class in 1998, where Mick Doohan was the undisputed star of the show, the phenomenon of his time. Max won the first GP of the year at Suzuka, a race that Mick failed to finish. The King of the 500 class then got back on track, winning four races, while the young Italian scored a series of podiums that kept him afloat in the general standings. Arriving at Brno for round ten, the Italian needed a win if he wanted to keep his title hopes alive. Doohan got away from pole but crashed out early on, allowing Biaggi to move to the front. A lead that the Italian held to the line, for a win that saw him move back into first place in the standings. He celebrated with a pretty extreme wheelie, one which had some unexpected consequences. &nbsp;A soft landing? Not quite  Hanging on to the handlebar, his bike almost vertical, Max was on the point of tipping over. As he landed, something that was captured only partly on camera, Biaggi hit the tank and his NSR 500 started to vibrate, his wheel wonky, the front fairing damaged. A spectacular move, which was the result of unbridled emotion, the desire to celebrate a key win mixed with the desire to impress Anna Falchi - "She was kind enough to accept my invite to be here, and then she brought me luck&rdquo;, explained Biaggi after the race. &nbsp;An uncalculated move  &ldquo;Everyone remembers that celebration", Biaggi commented years later. "It wasn&rsquo;t exactly a calculated move. The bike remained in fourth gear, hit by a gust of wind, but luckily I was quick to get my foot on the brake". A wheelie that remains the symbol of a season that was ultimately unlucky for Max, the rider receiving a black flag at Barcelona, but one that allowed him to star in one of the enduring images of modern motorcycling.         &ldquo;Back then, us Italians were the strongest! You remember guys?&rdquo; It is with these words that six-time world champion Max Biaggi begins on his social media pages, sharing a photo of the starting grid, where he lines up on the front row alongside Loris Capirossi. And the man starting the race is a well-known race director, the unforgettable Paolo Fantini. &ldquo;Vallelunga 1990. My first time riding the GP 125 cc. My friend Loris Capirossi is next to me on the grid. I finished third that day, our friend Doriano Romboni finished second, and Fausto Gresini won the race &ndash; and the championship. And now, more than ever, I say stay strong Fausto!&rdquo; Biaggi addresses his friend Gresini, who continues to battle coronavirus. The news of the day   The race took place on 14 October 1990 and Max Biaggi had just been crowned Italian champion in the 125 Sport Production class. On the 125 grid, Gresini, Romboni and Biaggi lined up in front of Gramigni, Ancona, Giannecchini, Pennacchioli, Omarini, Narduzzi and Arduini. &ldquo;For Fausto Gresini, victory had become like the white whale for Captain Ahab&rdquo;, wrote Motosprint at the time. &ldquo;It's taken him three years to hunt it down again. And he had to work for it, because the Team Pileri rider was up against some stiff competition around the Italian track, up against team-mate Capirossi, Vitali, Romboni and, in the first half of the race, Gramigni and a surprising Massimiliano Biaggi, the nineteen-year old Italian under-21 Sport Production champion, debuting in the world championship with the Honda of Team Del Rio-Matteoni&rdquo;. Capirossi crashed at the Tornantino. Vitali, right behind him, was caught up in the accident and "on edge and very angry, he lashed out as he rejoined the race by kicking Capirossi&rsquo;s bike. An action he immediately regretted and apologised for&rdquo;, reported Motosprint, Dario Ballardini its on-site correspondent for the race.  &ldquo;Underdog&rdquo; Massimiliano Biaggi  &ldquo;The real surprise was Biaggi: third in practice and then third in the race. He had a competitive bike and seized the opportunity without overdoing it, waiting patiently behind the leaders before closing in on Gramigni in the final stages&rdquo;, read Motosprint at the time. &ldquo;It was disaster for the other Team Italia riders, with Paolucci crashing early on, only to be followed by Debbia, Sannone and Fiorillo, who was part of the leading group.
