In terms of his future racing career, Darryn Binder remained uncertain for months. Once it became clear that there would be no room for him in MotoGP in 2023, he started to look around. Rightly so, because the 24-year old who hails from Potchefstroom has the potential to do well. But not in the top class, for now. And this is why Moto2 represents an excellent alternative.  Moto2 and Darryn Binder: making up for lost time   Almost everybody said that Darryn could have done with (at least) one year in Moto2, before moving up to the reigning class. The jump from Moto3 to MotoGP appeared rash to many, with any comparisons to Jack Miller, who took the same route, looking to be baseless.  And so here we are. The season is not yet over but we already know where Binder will be. He&rsquo;ll move to team Liqui Moly Intact GP, which currently fields Jeremy Alcoba and Marcel Schrotter. The South African will have the opportunity to take things a little easier, and will definitely have less pressure and responsibility on his shoulders. Down to Moto2: Darryn Binder to race with Intact GP

        After making an incredible recovery during the second half of the season, Dennis Foggia&rsquo;s title hopes were dashed on the last lap at Portim&atilde;o, when Darryn Binder floored him in making an exaggerated move into the corner. A daring move that caused a lot of reaction, not least in the Leopard garage. A few hours after the event, the South African has tried to apologise to the rider and his team for what happened. Binder: &ldquo;I wanted to pass Garcia&rdquo;  &ldquo;I just want to say sorry. I was trying to pass Sergio Garcia, I was braking and I suddenly saw Dennis Foggia in front of me. I had nowhere to go&rdquo; says Darryn in relation to events in the Algarve. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m really sorry for him, for his team and for Garcia. It&rsquo;s the last thing I wanted to happen of course, particularly with Dennis fighting for the title, it definitely wasn&rsquo;t my intention. I plan to apologise once again to everyone involved&rdquo;, concludes Andrea Dovizioso&rsquo;s future MotoGP team-mate. Moto3 Algarve, Binder’s apology to Foggia: “I had no room”

        The big step up. This might be one way to define Darryn Binder&rsquo;s move from the Honda 250 single-cylinder to the Yamaha 1000 four-cylinder. Having now signed with the Iwata manufacturer, the South African will race in MotoGP in 2022, riding the prototype M1. And he will do so with the renewed WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP team - now with new name and sponsorship - a "satellite" team compared to the Monster Energy Factory outfit and one that has already signed Andrea Dovizioso, future team-mate to the 23-year old who hails from Potchefststroom, a Dutch colony in the north-west of the country. Younger brother to Brad, who rides the Red Bull RC16, he will emulate what Jack Miller did back in 2015 when he jumped onto the Honda RC 213V, having left the Moto3 KTM. And to think that the pair have never been rivals, having travelled similar but nevertheless different paths. Darryn Binder: "A lifelong dream, I&rsquo;m up for the challenge"  The young South African is understandably very pleased: &ldquo;I&rsquo;m extremely grateful for this opportunity, as it has been a lifelong dream to race in the MotoGP category. I definitely didn&rsquo;t expect to make the jump straight from Moto3 to the highest class.&rdquo; Darryn appears anything but nervous: &ldquo;I do believe I&rsquo;m up for the challenge, and I&lsquo;m ready to put in all the hard work for 2022. My target at the beginning will be just to find my feet in the big class and learn as much as possible to get stronger and stronger throughout my rookie season&rdquo;. And lastly, his thanks: "I would like to say a really big thank you to Yamaha and the RNF MotoGP Team for everything they have done to make this possible as well as everyone who has been involved in getting me to this point. I&lsquo;m now just looking forward to riding the Yamaha YZR-M1 for the first time at the end of this season&rdquo;.
