Moto2, Sam Lowes and his “monstrous” post-race hand

The Brit competed yesterday despite Saturday’s accident, but this morning he was faced with a very swollen hand and wrist…. Will he be fit to fight Bastianini for the title this Sunday?

Sam Lowesbad accident during free practice 3 at Valencia looked as if it had left him with a fractured wrist. But a visit to the medical centre ruled out any such injury.

Still in the mix for the Moto2 title, along with Enea Bastianini, Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi, the Brit therefore took to the track yesterday, trying to give it his all during the race.

From eighteenth on the grid, the Marc VDS rider was unable to do more than a fourteenth-place finish. But he had a more than valid reason… Today he revealed the hand that powered his Kalex across the line only 24 hours ago, a ‘monstrous’ hand and wrist that show the obvious signs of yesterday’s effort.

"Nobody likes Mondays" – commented Sam with irony, alongside a photo of his right hand immersed in ice. A visibly swollen hand and wrist that don’t auger well ahead of the season finale at Portimao, a race that will decide the Moto2 champion.

Will he be in shape for Sunday?

Will Lowes be able to recover with the help of some cryotherapy in time for the weekend? The battle with championship leader Enea Bastianini is still wide open, considering the 14 points that separate the pair. But he will also need to look out for Marini and Bezzecchi, hot on his heels in the general standings.
