MotoGP: who will replace Marc Marquez? Dovizioso the right man

If the eight-time champ is not ready to return to the track for the start of the season, who might the Repsol Honda team field? The fans already have their own ideas

10.12.2020 ( Aggiornata il 10.12.2020 12:27 )

While the Japanese manufacturer has had to do without its star Marc Marquez during the 2020 season, the same might be true of 2021, at least in part. The Spaniard’s condition remains unstable due to an infection, and his recovery may take up to six months. If the championship is to begin on 28 March in Qatar, who might line up in his place?

Dovi’s return?

Understandably, the response that got the most votes was Andrea Dovizioso (46%) (an idea also supported by Melandri). The Italian has decided not to sign a deal for next season and will instead spend time riding his MX bike and with other events while awaiting a good project. Well, this might be just that. Although his entourage hasn’t been contacted by Honda management as yet, it could be a good solution for both parties.

In the family…

Or Honda might decide to keep it in the family. Brother Alex Marquez might take his brother’s place on the factory team, with Bradl in his place in LCR. This hypothesis received 18% of the vote, with 15% betting on Stefan Bradl, or rather the test rider who has already stood in for Marc during 2020.

MotoGP: Bautista a possible replacement for Marquez in Honda

Trickier options

The less likely options appear to be a MotoGP return for Alvaro Bautista (9%), current Honda rider in Superbike, no replacement at all (8%), or even Moto2 rider Sam Lowes (3%) or Tito Rabat (2%), without a ride after being left out of Avintia’s plans. These possibilities have failed to convince the fans.
