The Spanish manager analyses the 2020 season. Without Marquez, the Tokyo manufacturer has struggled, clinging on to the progress made by Takaaki Nakagami and Alex Marquez
The Respol Honda team has had a very tough season, short on results without Marc Marquez.
Alberto Puig knows that the absence of #93 has weighed heavily: "We went from being able to win, to a win becoming almost impossible", he comments on the MotoGP site. "With Marc we could win, without him it was impossible. It’s been a strange year for us all, we didn’t have chance to win the MotoGP title this season”.
While Marc was out through injury, Alex made his MotoGP debut and improved race after race: “He’s done a great job, at the start of the year many people didn’t have faith in him. Mid-season he made a step forward”, he continues. “From a Honda standpoint, he took a bigger step than we expected. We’re very pleased with his progress”.
Melandri: “Dovizioso on Marquez's Honda? Nothing surprises me anymore”
Stefan Bradl stepped in for Marc Marquez: "A special mention goes to Stefan, he’s been a hero. He adapted quickly, we could see that he was quick over certain laps and understood how to exploit the Honda”.
A final word about the LCR riders: "Nakagami has proved he can run with the best and has had a good season. Cal Crutchlow had some highs and lows but gave us a lot of information about the bike without Marc”.
