The news has been shared in an official press release: “After nearly two months battling Covid, Fausto Gresini has sadly passed away, a few days after turning 60”
It would prove to be a difficult night for both Fausto Gresini and his family. A rumour of his passing circulated during the night only to be contradicted by his son, who was understandably angry about the inaccurate communications. “My wonderful dad is very ill - wrote son Lorenzo on social media - but today will not be his day”.
This morning, however, Team Gresini Racing issued a press release confirming the tragic news: “The news we would have never wanted to give, and that unfortunately we are forced to share with all of you. After nearly two months battling against Covid, Fausto Gresini has sadly passed away, a few days after turning 60. Gresini Racing sends Fausto’s family its support: his wife Nadia and the four children Lorenzo, Luca, Alice and Agnese... as well as everyone who had the chance to get to know him and love him throughout the years.”
The Motosprint team extends its sincere condolences to the family and the entire Gresini Racing team. The MotoGP paddock will not be the same without you Fausto.
