Video - "I just need the doctors’ OK this week. Up until a month ago, it was hard to eat or open a door, now I feel the improvements day after day”
There is no testing in Qatar today and so attention shifts back to Marc Marquez, who continues with his recovery. Honda has confirmed that Marc is doing hours of physio and exercise each day, to speed up his recovery while remaining in constant contact with the doctors.
“I’m trying to imagine the best possible return - says Marc - which doesn’t mean winning but being immediately able to ride with the same fluidity and style as before. It’s a long process, but the fact I feel better day after day gives me confidence”.
A positive situation then, in light of the difficulties he was having just a few weeks ago.
“One month ago, I was struggling to have a shower, eat or open a door with my right arm. It’s a battle with the mind, as you have to fight and understand your level of confidence, taking it one step at a time. I feel I can get back on a bike now, but this week’s medical check-up will be key. If it goes well then I’ll start riding small bikes on small tracks”.
Marc's thoughts also turn to Qatar of course, the rider having chosen to sit out the tests so as not to repeat past mistakes.
“Knowing I can’t start the season in the proper way, doing the tests and working with the new parts Honda is bringing doesn’t make me happy of course. But I am aware of the great work Bradl and Espargaró are doing and that makes me feel better”.
