MotoGP, Marc Marquez is back: “A while since I had so much fun”

Having tested a minibike, yesterday he rode a RC213V-S at Montmelò. The next step? Riding a MotoGP

Seeing him back on track for the first time since 19 July 2020, when he crashed during the Jerez GP, is emotional for us all. Eight-time world champion Marc Marquez was sorely missed last season, though perhaps less so by some of his rivals, but he now appears to be back.

Yesterday, the Spaniard was riding a RC213V–S, which means it’s looking increasingly likely that he’ll be ready for the first race of the season in Qatar.

Back in the saddle with the doctors’ OK

Back in his leathers and with a replica road version of his Honda MotoGP, Marc was out on track at Barcelona yesterday. Having returned from Doha, where he got the anti-Covid vaccine made available to the entire MotoGP paddock, Marquez decided to take to the next step in his recovery: “Just a few days after his medical team confirmed the progress made by Marc Marquez, the eight-time World Champion was back on track - confirmed a HRC press note - First using a mini-bike close to his home in Cervera, Marquez has now completed a day of riding at the Montmelo circuit on the RC213V-S to understand his physical condition after eight months away from the track”. How did this “test” go? In a video posted by the team, you can enjoy every moment of Marc’s return to the saddle, but there’s no footage of his feedback once back in the garage.

Sheer joy

We don’t know for sure whether Marquez will be present for the Qatar season-opener, but the Spaniard was clearly very happy to be back on track: “It’s a while since I had so much fun!”, he wrote alongside an image published on social media. Now all that remains is the last and most difficult step: getting back on a MotoGP bike.
