Marc Marquez is ready to return and just needs the OK from the Dorna doctors, which should come on Thursday. After a nine-month absence, the eight-time champion will finally be able to get back on his Honda. And while there might be some uncertainty as to his physical fitness and the kind of results he might be able to achieve, one thing is certain and that is that he can finally see light shining at the end of the tunnel. Marc’s physiotherapist Carlos J Garcia looks back at this difficult period and encourages the rider ahead of his long-awaited return.

“You have nothing to prove to anyone”

Marquez’s physio posted on social media this morning. Carlos Garcia has supported Marc throughout this long rehabilitation period, even moving into the Spanish champion’s home in order to avoid any issues relating to Covid-19: You have nothing to prove to anyone - writes Garcia - you’re Marc. Those of us who’ve been close to you through this difficult time know that you’re not just an athlete but above all a great person”.

Tough months

The post then goes on to detail Marc’s commitment over recent months: “We’ve given it our all - continues Garcia - and we've done it fast, but these nine months have been the longest of our lives. We gave up everything with one single goal. And we’ve finally achieved that goal and this makes up for everything we’ve experienced, not experienced, and suffered. The last months have been very hard but we’ve always tried to see the light at the end of the tunnel. If I’ve learned one thing during this time, it’s that, in order to succeed, an athlete needs talent, yes, but not only that. You have to do what you have to do, and not what you want to do. Getting up early, being punctual, consistent, knowing how to rest, following a healthy diet, training, suffering. Everything, for who knows how long. Everything, despite your dreams slipping away. Everything, with the doubt as to when you’ll be able to race again”.

Garcia concludes with renewed hope: “It looks like the light we imagined at the end of the tunnel each day is finally illuminating us. Marc Marquez will win world championships, but he’ll still be Marc”.
