MotoGP, Martin: “Dall’Igna surprised by me. Rossi? He won’t win again”

The Spaniard was the first guest on Jorge Lorenzo’s “99 seconds” programme and spoke about his first MotoGP podium, Marquez’s return and Rossi

The revelation of the first two MotoGP races in Qatar was without a doubt Jorge Martin, the rookie immediately able to exploit the Ducati Desmosedici GP, so much so that he reached the podium in his second ever race. The Pramac team rider has been interviewed by five-time champion Jorge Lorenzo on his “99 seconds” YouTube show and talked openly about many subjects.

The taste of the first podium

“Right from the start, I felt comfortable riding the Ducati, I can almost do what I want”. This is how Martin describes his incredible feeling with the Desmosedici GP, adding: “The bike allows me to do a lot and if I was able to set pole it’s because I was at the limit and able to control it. Scoring pole right away means I still have a good margin. I thought I could fight for important results this year, but I didn’t expect so much from the race”.

Compliments from Dall'Igna

The Spaniard has amazed the general public, but also Ducati Corse general manager Gigi Dall’Igna: “I surprised him more than Zarco. I told him, 'The bike is incredible, I can do what I want'. And he responded, 'No, no, you’re incredible'. He was very pleased. I think I’m working very well”. Having scored a podium last time out, the bar is now raised even further: “When will the first win come? I’ll work so that it comes soon. Maybe in Austria, where I’ve always done well and scored four podiums. Then tracks like Mugello, Montmeló, they’re good for me and for the Ducati. Now we have some tough tracks, like Portimão and Jerez, where as a rookie I hope to score a top ten finish".

His most famous rivals

At Portimão he’ll finally be able to compete against Marc Marquez: I’ll be able to learn a lot with him on track. The first time you see him you’re impressed, but then he becomes just another rider. Everyone wants to beat him, maybe I won’t manage it this year, but I’ll aim to do it soon”. He’s already come across Valentino Rossi: "He was my idol ever since I was a kid, and it’s great to race against him, although I’d prefer to have done so during his best years. I don’t think he can win a race this year, maybe in the wet, but it would be tough in the dry. Maybe he’ll score some podiums”. And who’ll win the title? I’d say Quartararo, for his speed, but we need to see what happens when he gets to tough tracks. If I could choose, I’d like Viñales to win”.
