Fausto Gresini will have part of the Imola track named after him. On 6 May 2021, the town council approved a motion signed by councillors Alan Manara and Antonio Ussia (“Imola Races” group) that will see the Mayor and Council pay tribute to the former rider and manager, who died on 23 February 2021, by dedicating a significant section of the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari to him.

The project has been in development for weeks, but a decision is still to be made as to which section of the track will be named after Gresini. According to circuit assessor Elena Penazzi, the naming ceremony may take place over the weekend of 4 July, during the Italian CIV championship round.

The initiative

“We have decided to undertake this initiative, which has been unanimously supported, because Fausto Gresini was such a part of Imola’s community”, the councillors’ release reads. “And because, as well as excelling in the world of motorsport - as a former rider, two-time 125 world champion, head of his own team and, in the past, a member of the Formula Imola board - he was, above all, a great man. Throughout his life, he was always ready and willing to help his city, of which he was so fond”.

"Our circuit has been selected as the most obvious symbol of the world of sport, and particularly motorsport, an arena in which Fausto played a central role throughout his life".

A wonderful gesture by which to remember the work of a man who gave so much to the motorsport world, first as a rider and later with his Gresini Racing activities. A company that will continue on thanks to the efforts of his wife Nadia and sons Lorenzo and Luca.
