Last year, when Ducati management decided to bring Jack Miller to the factory team, they signed a one-year contract with him and now, following his two consecutive wins at Jerez and Le Mans, it looks as if it’s almost time to renew said contract. Sporting director Paolo Ciabatti suggested as much following the French GP.

An uphill start

If we look at the season’s first two races, Miller didn’t exactly start out on the right foot, also struggling due to compartmental syndrome in his forearm, while the other Ducati riders Francesco Bagnaia, Johann Zarco and Jorge Martin all reached the podium. Yet a few weeks on and the Australian has now shown his real worth, winning at Jerez in the dry and doing it again at Le Mans, in mixed conditions.

Reaping the benefits

"We’ve made some important changes and taken some risks”, Ciabatti admits to Sky Sport, in reference to the new factory and Pramac team line-ups. He continues: We put our faith in Jack and Pecco and now we’re enjoying this moment because it’s honestly exceeding all our expectations”.

So much so that the 2022 contract renewal might be just around the corner. The Ducati manager has this to say: "Certain announcements may arrive soon, not all of them. I think it’s early for the satellite team”. What better time to confirm their trust in Miller, now that he’s in the mix for the title, in fourth place (behind Fabio Quartararo and the other ‘red’ riders Bagnaia and Johann Zarco)? And ahead of such a special GP, in that it’s in Italy and is a favourable track for the Desmosedici.
