Italian MotoGP, is Bagnaia ready for success at Mugello?

The Italian is increasingly in control of his Ducati Desmosedici GP, but he’s yet to score a win. Perhaps the Tuscan track is the right place

Ducati is clearly the favourite heading into the Italian GP. Both because it’s won each edition since 2017, with three different riders (in order: Andrea Dovizioso, Jorge Lorenzo and Danilo Petrucci) and because the Desmosedici GP is fighting fit, having won the last two races at the hands of Jack Miller. Three Ducatis currently occupy the top four championship positions and in second place is Francesco Bagnaia, just one point from leader Fabio Quartararo.

It’s his time

Now in this third MotoGP season, “Pecco” is still to score a win in the top class, but he is already proving that he knows how to score the best possible result in every situation aboard the Desmosedici GP. The Mugello circuit could be the dream setting in which to achieve that long-awaited result, and his chances are good: “During the last few races, my feeling with the Desmosedici GP has always been excellent, and Mugello is a circuit that suits our bike's technical specifications very well. We'll see how it goes this weekend, but I'm determined and confident that we can have a good race”.

The emotion of factory colours

There won’t be any fans to cheer him on, but the ducatisti will be doing that from home, and Bagnaia has another reason to aim high: “The Italian Grand Prix is our home race, and it's held at Mugello, one of my favourite tracks. It'll be the first time I'll ride here wearing the official colours of the Ducati Lenovo Team, and this motivates me even more!” The fact this is his home track will surely spur Pecco on during what is a golden opportunity for him.
