MotoGP, shoulder problems for Marquez: “There’s a dense fluid that’s bothersome”

The Spanish rider continues to struggle not only with his humerus but also his right shoulder, which has been operated on in the past. How will his 2021 season evolve?

Marc Marquez is still not comfortable with the arm he injured at Jerez in 2020. On track this morning for first practice, the Spanish rider has spoken to DAZN about a shoulder inflammation, which appears to be a cause for fresh concern.

So not just his fractured humerus that is still not 100% but also his right shoulder, which appears to be under stress now that the rider is back on track.

Shoulder issues

“There’s a dense fluid in my shoulder that’s hard to understand right now - said the eight-time champion - it’s bothering me and when I ride I can feel that my shoulder is stiff. I’ve told the doctors how I’m feeling”.

The Honda rider will see his doctors for another check-up after the Catalunya GP and he’s not ruling out taking another break, as he said during the Mugello round: “The bone isn’t 100% yet, but there’s improvement. I don’t like the situation but I’m at an acceptable level to try and test some things. It will be important to see whether we can test here on Monday in preparation for 2022. It’s a transition year for sure. I’ve also spoken with former riders who’ve had serious injuries and they had the same mentality as me, and it cost them too”.

Riding differences

As he said during yesterday’s press conference, the Honda isn’t an easy bike to ride and for him, unlike other HRC riders, what makes the difference is his physical condition: “I really feel the difference depending on whether I ride fresh or tired. The bike is the same but the feeling is different because my riding is different. In the right-hand turns I manage the muscle tension in a particular way. These are things I need to deal with to get back to my previous level”.
