MotoGP Catalunya, Martin: “The crash? I hit my head so don’t remember it”

The Catalan weekend is an important one for Jorge Martin, who returns to action after his accident at Portimao. The Spanish team Pramac rider will be reunited with his Desmosedici, a bike he was riding so well prior to the Portuguese incident. The MotoGP rookie reveals how he felt watching from home and seeing Ducati do so well: "I didn’t feel frustrated, because I’m here to gain experience. This isn’t the time to be on the podium all the time, I need to learn".

As for the crash, what do you remember?

"I was unlucky. I’d put in new tyres and thought they were already ‘clean’, but no. And through the first right-hander I suffered a high-side and was tossed into the air. I was also lucky, because in hitting my head on the ground, I’ve forgotten everything that happened. I had several fractures, it was no small thing. But I hope not to repeat that mistake with unclean tyres. I’ll be more careful in future".

Forced to rest up, Jorge watched TV, studying his rivals and colleagues: "At first I couldn’t even walk I was so bad. Sure, I was watching it all on TV. Once I got mobility in my legs back and could walk again, I was back on the bike, hoping to be able to race at Mugello. But the doctors stopped me, I wasn’t ready and it was best to wait. It was hard to watch Mugello from home though”.

Did you think of Marc Marquez as you recovered?

"We know what happened to Marc, he had to miss many races. I would have come back for Mugello, but I couldn’t. Yes, a phrase that Marquez said came to mind actually. He said: “We have many races, but only one body”. So I thought it was best to miss the Italian GP".
