Catalunya GP, Rossi: “The changes in FP2 made things worse”

The Petronas rider’s weekend gets off to a slow start, Rossi just 19th at the end of Friday: "I’m suffering with understeer and haven’t found the right feeling. We’ll try new solutions tomorrow”

It’s not been a good Friday for Valentino Rossi at the Catalunya GP. The Italian rounded out the day in nineteenth position in second practice, after making some bike modifications with respect to FP1 that didn’t bring the desired results.

“I started the day with a setting similar to what we used at Mugello last weekend, but I didn’t feel competitive, and we decided to make some changes to the bike for FP2. But this only made things worse and I couldn’t find the right feeling on the track”, explains the number 46 rider.

One of his biggest problems today has been corner entry: “Today corner entry has been really complicated, because I struggled with understeer and couldn’t set up the ideal line. It’s a pity because I like this track and the new turn 10 reminds me a lot of the one we used a few years back”.

"I normally get on with the hard tyre"

As for the race, Vale doesn’t rule out the possibility of using the hard tyre: I saw that Franco Morbidelli was competitive also with the harder compound, so in the next practice I’ll try it to see if I can exploit it. I normally get on well with that type of tyre”.

Lastly, he comments on the heart rate reading that allows viewers to see the nine-time champion’s pulse: “I think it’s interesting data though not particularly indicative. Heart rate is something personal that varies from one person to the next, so a high number compared to others doesn’t mean greater physical effort”.
