The Catalunya GP weekend gave us a thrilling Moto3 race, with no shortage of battles as well as some controversy and a few safety-related doubts.

Over the course of the weekend, aside the from usual frontrunners, Elia Bartolini and Daniel Holgado were also on track. The pair, the current leaders of the CIV and CEV championships in the same category, were standing in for injured riders Tatay and Kofler. And both the Italian and the Spaniard did very well, reaching the points zone and crossing the line in thirteenth (Bartolini) and fifteenth (Holgado) place.

Hotbeds of talent

It’s no secret that the CEV, now a junior world championship to all intents and purposes, is a highly competitive series, as proved by Garcia and Alcoba, first and second in the race, or by current leader Pedro Acosta, all of whom hail from the same series, but it’s also true that the CIV Moto3 is cultivating some high-level young talent, like Bartolini of course, or Surra, who faired well at Mugello.

The fact that Holgado can be competitive at a Spanish track like Barcelona comes as no surprise, just as it’s clear he would have been holding something back, considering this weekend’s CEV event at the same track, where he’ll be seeking his fourth consecutive win. Nevertheless, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that both the Spanish and Italian schools are operating at such a high level as to allow their leaders to score strong results also in the world championships, in the hope of securing a permanent seat as soon as possible.
