MotoGP, Chicho Lorenzo: “Not a nice gesture to protest against Quartararo”

In his regular YouTube show, Chicho Lorenzo analyses some of the key moments of the latest Barcelona MotoGP round. Lorenzo Senior has something to say about everyone, starting with the teams that protested about what happened to Fabio Quartararo in the race, the rider completing the final laps with his leathers undone.

Quartararo’s zip

"The only explanation for what happened to Quartararo is that the zip opened. We saw him remove his chest protector, but we need to know why”, analyses the Majorcan. Chicho didn’t appreciate the protests of those who complained to Race Direction: “It definitely wasn’t a nice gesture on the part of those who went to protest”.

Maverick Vinales and Miguel Oliveira

While Quartararo can console himself with the championship lead, the same can’t be said of Maverick Vinales, fast during Monday’s test but off the pace in the race. And the arrival of Silvano Galbusera in the role of crew chief is yet to have an effect: "When there’s no pressure, Maverick works very well. But what happens? What do you do to solve the problem? Trust in a new crew chief? Complain about the tyre? If Yamaha has invested so much in the bike and is so keen to have it working, it won’t want to turn things upside down”.

His final comment regards Barcelona race winner Miguel Oliveira. "It struck me when Quartararo passed him, in that Miguel stayed there in his slipstream until he was able to get back past him and break away. There’s nothing more destructive psychologically than being re-overtaken by your rival after trying to make a break for it. And yet he resisted", concludes Lorenzo.
