The MotoGP world championship calendar continues to undergo changes. Following the cancellation of the Australian GP and the subsequent decision to race in Portugal, Dorna, the FIM and IRTA now communicate another schedule change. The Thai GP, which should have run from 15 to 17 October, has been cancelled due to the current pandemic.

A difficult but sensible decision

It’s not an easy time for the world championship and Dorna, forced to continuously adapt the MotoGP calendar due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as was the case in 2020 too.  Although the decision was perhaps predictable considering the current situation, it has looked as if the Asian rounds might be feasible. And yet the news broke this morning and Thailand, like Australia, is dropped from the 2021 calendar.

“A tough decision – reads the Dorna press note - A replacement event is currently under consideration and any updates regarding a possible substitute will be published as soon as available”.
