Andrea Dovizioso will join Valentino Rossi on the Petronas Yamaha Team until the end of the season. The news was already announced several weeks ago, but is made official now, just ahead of the Misano GP taking place on 19 September.
This marks a return for the Italian, who left MotoGP at the end of 2020 before deciding to climb aboard Franco Morbidelli’s M1, the latter having now moved to the factory Iwata squad. The contract signed by Dovizioso will also be valid for the 2022 season.

“Racing with Yamaha has always been my dream, and that's why when the opportunity arrived I did not think twice, although I know it's going to be a tough challenge for me", comments the 2004 125 champion. "I've got many things ahead of me to learn: a new bike, a new team, a new working system. It‘s a big challenge that starts at Misano, my home GP. This makes it even more exciting. I can't wait to be aboard my M1!”
