With a brief press release, the Italian team announces the end of its relationship with the Italian rider, who will not see out the season
The marriage between Yari Montella and the Speed Up squad has not worked out, divorce coming even before the season draws to an end. The team, headed up by Luca Boscoscuro, has confirmed the news with a brief press note that reads: “Team SpeedUp and Yari Montella confirm that they have consensually agreed to dissolve the contract between the parties, with immediate effect”.
It has been a season to forget for the European Moto2 champion, a title he achieved in CEV with the same Italian team. He concludes his first world championship season with zero points. The season began with something of an uphill climb and then came a hand and wrist injury at the French GP which ruled him out of the next four rounds. The rider returned for the Styrian GP, finishing the race in 24th position.
After just two races, Montella was suspended by the team and didn’t compete at Silverstone or Aragon because they didn’t deem him physically fit. The Italian then competed at Misano, an event that has been immediately followed up with confirmation of the split.
