The Frenchman is just sixteenth at the end of day one: “It’s impossible to ride the M1 in these conditions. I know I have good pace in the dry, but I’m not thinking about the title”

The Misano weekend could prove decisive for Fabio Quartararo who faces his first championship match point at the Italian track. But the first day of practice has been disastrous for the Yamaha rider, who finishes Friday in sixteenth place, far from frontrunner Jack Miller.

For the championship leader, the problem seems to relate to riding the Yamaha in mixed conditions: “In the wet this morning I could be quite fast but in the afternoon, with a damp track and mixed conditions, we really struggled. The Yamaha is unrideable in those conditions and it’s impossible to be fast like the Ducatis, which perform really well in the damp”.

“I can’t even say the issue is related to tyres, because it’s something that’s only happening to the Yamahas”, continues number 20. “When the track starts to dry, we struggle even more than we do in the wet, because the bike becomes really hard to ride even at low speed and, right now, we don’t know what to do about it”.

“I can’t think about the championship”

Fabio doesn’t hide his concern: I admit I’m a little worried. Not in terms of the championship, as I can’t even think about match point, but for the future, as we can’t race each year hoping that we never have any races in mixed conditions. We need to improve, both me and particularly the Yamaha”.

“In any case, the race will be probably run in dry conditions on Sunday and so I’m still confident, as I know I have good pace”, concludes Quartararo.
