The Gas Gas rider continues to convalesce after being involved in a serious accident during second practice at the Algarve circuit, but his desire to get back on his prototype bike grows day by day. Pol sustained multiple fractures to his back, nerve damage and a pulmonary contusion, as well as suffering jaw problems that prevented him from talking until a short time ago, when he himself provided an update as to his condition in a video published on social media.

Pol Espargaró: “Riding is the best medicine”

A month and a half after his accident, Pol Espargaró has now missed four rounds and has this to say: "Climbing on a bike is my daily medicine. I want to be back for one of the three races still to come before the summer break. The crash at Portimao was the kind that you don’t want to repeat, it was my fault but I didn’t expect it. We had some issues with the temperature of the rear tyre, but I was mainly to blame”, he tells Paddock Abierto by Aprilia for DAZN. “It’s been a tough time, I lost nine kilos and all my body mass. As well as the fractures, the main problem I had was neurological. I had a lot of pain and was only sleeping maybe two or three hours. Now it’s all more under control."

The upcoming rounds that the Catalan rider refers to are Mugello on 9-11 June, Sachsenring on 16-18 June and Assen immediately after on 23-25 June.
