Road Races: 2021 Tourist Trophy dates and news

After a 2020 that saw no racing on the Isle of Man, the oldest road race will return next year, running from late May into June

2020 was a disappointing year for Road Race enthusiasts, Cookstown 100 and the Scarborough races the sole events to take place, while the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy was cancelled for only the third time in more than one hundred years. But in 2021, the much-loved island is ready to host the world’s oldest road race once more.

Qualifying from 30 May to 4 June

The pivotal event of the road racing season will play out, as usual, between late May and early June, with many testing days followed by a week of racing that culminates on the Friday with the Senior TT, the grand finale, where riders are often able to record incredible lap times around the 60km Mountain Course.

Qualifying will take place from Sunday 30 May to Friday 4 June. Sessions that nevertheless only determine the starting positions for those in 21st place and below, seeing as the top twenty will start according to a pre-assigned order based on the number on their fairing. In recent seasons, local hero Conor Cummins has started first, the rider set to attend once again with the team Padgett Honda.

Races from 5 to 11 June

The racing week will run from Saturday 5 to Friday 11 June, with races on alternate days. On day one it’s Superbike, while the Senior TT rounds out the week following the Supersport races, two Sidecar races, the Superstock 1000 and the Lightweight, which has a new technical regulation for 2021

There will be no TT Zero for electric bikes though. The experimental category, created in 2010 from the ashes  of the TTXGP, should return in 2022 after a two-year break, in the hope of a longer entry list after barely a dozen riders competed in recent seasons, dominated by the Mugen.
