Road Races: all 2021 races on the Isle of Man now cancelled

First the Tourist Trophy, and now the Isle’s other international races such as the Classic TT, the Manx GP and the Southern 100 have been cancelled for a second consecutive year

There will no racing on the Isle of Man in 2021. Following the cancellation of the Tourist Trophy, the organisers of which are already looking ahead to the 2022 edition, it is now confirmed that the remaining events on the calendar have also been cancelled, for the second year in a row.

The Classic TT and the Manx Grand Prix, initially scheduled for late August and early September, have now been postponed until 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, despite there being only a few isolated cases on the Isle of Man right now.

Organisational issues

As explained in an official press release, one of the main problems that is preventing the races from taking place again this year is the difficulty in finding sufficent marshals, doctors, race officials and specialised staff to ensure the events can run safely. At the same time, it is also announced that the Classic TT, like the Tourist Trophy, will see some changes in 2022, to ensure that the next edition is a memorable one.

On the same day, the Southern 100 has also been cancelled. This international race, which takes place at the Billown Circuit rather than the Mountain Course, was scheduled for August but its cancellation now dashes all hope of seeing any racing on the Isle in 2021.
