After the excitement of the Portimão MotoGP round last weekend, the motorcycling world remains in Portugal, where the 2021 CEV championship will get underway this weekend at Estoril, with its first Moto2, Moto3 and European Talent Cup races.

In the European Moto2, won last year by Yari Montella, the spotlight will be on the two riders of team Ciatti Speed Up, with which the Italian dominated in 2020, or rather Fermìn Aldeguer (the 2020 Stock 600 champion) and Alonso Lopez, who arrives from the Moto3 world championship. But there are many high-level riders ready to take to the grid, including Andy Verdoia, and ‘usual suspects’ Dimas Ekky Prratama, Piotr Biesiekirski and Xavi Cardelùs. Italy pins its hopes on two very young riders in the shape of Alessandro Zetti and, particularly, Mattia Rato, now with Promoracing and riding the Kalex that Alessandro Zaccone raced with last season.

As usual, the Stock 600 riders will be on the same grid, albeit with a separate classification, with names including Mika Perez, Alex Escrig and Italian Federico Menozzi, who will race with the Yamaha of Hector Faubel’s team Fau55.

Moto3: Lunetta leads the Italian charge

In the Junior Moto3 world championship seven Italians will take to the grid, starting with Talento Azzurro rider Luca Lunetta, competing for the AC Racing Team, and TM Factory Racing riders Raffaele Fusco and Alessandro Morosi, joined by likely frontrunner David Salvador. The series also includes many rookies, including Mattia Volpi, Nicola Fabio Carraro, Filippo Farioli and Matteo Ripamonti.

Many of the ETC riders were competing in Red Bull Rookies Cup at Portimão last weekend, Colombian David Alonso for example, 2020 European Talent Cup champion and the winner of both races. Five Italians will compete in the ETC, or rather Flavio Piccolo, Alessandro Sciarretta, Edoardo Boggio, Guido Pini and Demis Mihaila.

The races (ETC excluded) will be broadcast live on Sky Sport MotoGP. Moto2 race 1 gets underway at 12:00, followed by Moto3 at 13:00, while Moto2 race 2 will run at 15:00.
