BSB, Chris Walker returns to racing: "I hope I’m still fast”

At the age of 49, the former SBK rider will be back on track this season, taking part in the Ducati TriOptions Cup. "I need some test time, but I can’t wait to start"

Six years since his last appearance and after a brief flirtation with sidecars, Chris Walker is set to return to racing, within the context of British Superbike. The 49-year old, a former WorldSBK rider, will be competing in the 2021 Ducati TriOptions Cup, riding a Panigale V2 for team 4T2 Racing, as team-mate to Craig Currie.

The last time Walker rode a Borgo Panigale bike was back in 2003, while competing in the world championship with team GSE Racing's 998, a bike he also put on the podium on several occasions.

Walker: "I’m not setting myself any goals"

Despite his enthusiasm, "The Stalker" is well aware of the challenge that awaits him: “I want to thank my wife Rachel and everyone who has helped make this return possible. I hope I’m still fast, but I know I need some decent test time before I can get back to a good level of competitiveness, and I'm under no illusions, so I’m not setting myself any goals. I’ll just focus on having fun. The TriOptions Cup level is good and there are some strong riders, so I’ll have to work hard".

"Nothing can replace the feeling you get when you race and so I’m happy to be able to experience it again. It’s like going back in time, because my first experience on a Superbike was in '95 with a Ducati and, if it hadn’t been for Steve Hislop getting me on that bike, I’d never have raced in BSB over the next two years”, explains the Englishman.
