BSB, Snetterton test: weather ruins plans, Iddon the quickest

With the rain playing havoc with teams’ plans over two of the three test days, the second stage of the British SBK Test Tour has finished with two Ducatis up front, albeit it with moderate lap times

Following the tests at Silverstone, the British Superbike paddock moved on to Snetterton in Norfolk for the second stage of the 2021 Test Tour, ahead of this year’s championship which is set to begin at Oulton Park in late June. The three-day session actually became just one day when bad weather hit teams testing around the "300" layout of the track.

Both day one and day three were rendered useless due to rain and cold temperatures, the teams and riders unable to continue with their development work. Only Wednesday’s sessions allowed teams to set any relevant lap times.

Iddon and Bridewell the quickest

Although the times were rather slow and so not particularly indicative, the fastest riders at Snetterton were Christian Iddon and Tommy Bridewell, both riding the Ducati, with the VisionTrack Racing rider just one tenth of a second ahead of the sole Moto Rapido representative.

BMW put in a great performance, the new M1000RR grabbing five of the top ten spots. The best of those riding the German sports bike was Danny Buchan, third ahead of Kyle Ryde and Peter Hickman, with Andrew Irwin seventh behind brother Glenn and in front of the highly-anticipated Xavi Forés, who comes to BSB following a complicated 2020 WorldSBK season.

Jason O'Halloran, a standout rider at the Silverstone test with the McAms Yamaha, finished just fourteenth but also completed very few laps, ahead of Danny Kent and team-mate Tarran Mackenzie, who crashed during the test. Joe Francis also suffered a bad crash during the first session, while current champion Josh Brookes was unable to complete even one useful lap. But he’ll be back for the next stage of the Test Tour taking place at Oulton Park on 19 May.
