BSB: the Summer Grand Slam begins at Donington, with O'Halloran out front

The British Superbikes return to the National configuration of the famous English track for the first of two consecutive August rounds, the team McAms rider the current frontrunner

Next weekend marks the start of a very busy second half of the month for British Superbike, with back-to-back races at Donington Park, in its National version, and then Cadwell Park, the two events making up the Milwaukee Summer Grand Slam.

If one rider wins all six of the races making up the two race weekends, then that individual will win an additional monetary prize of 50,000 GBP, but it’s no easy feat considering the uncertainty involved in racing at a track like Donington’s National.

O'Halloran the big favourite

The favourite is of course the Australian Jason O'Halloran, who scored a fantastic triple at Thruxton aboard the team McAms Yamaha and is now well ahead in the standings, but many other riders are keen to make an impression, starting with the "usual" Christian Iddon with the VisionTrack Racing Ducati and the other McAms rider Tarran Mackenzie, second and third in the standings.

Not forgetting Glenn Irwin on the Honda, already extremely competitive at this track last year, as well as the BMW bikes of brother Andrew, Danny Buchan and Bradley Ray, and FHO Racing riders Hickman and Forés. Another possible outsider is rookie Rory Skinner, and then there’s also former world championship rider Danny Kent, who achieved his first BSB podium just two weeks ago.

As usual, the first of the three races will be a short sprint on Saturday afternoon, followed by Sunday’s two races. The starting grid is established according to the fastest laps scored in the preceding race.
