BSB, Mackenzie's 2022 season starts at Donington: “I’m back doing what I love”

The 2021 British Superbike champion will line up for this weekend’s round after recovering from injury: “I’m not setting a particular goal, I just want to enjoy riding again”

This weekend, the BSB riders will be out at Donington Park (in its shorter National configuration) for the third round of the season. One of the talking points will be the return of current champion Tarran Mackenzie who, after missing the opening Silverstone and Oulton Park rounds due to an ankle injury sustained during testing at Silverstone, is now ready to get back on board the team McAMS Yamaha R1.

“Taz” will first need to get the OK from doctors prior to Friday morning’s FP1 but, having already completed some tests with the R1, he’s sure he’ll be able to compete: “It was amazing to get back in the saddle last week and I got on quite well with the riding despite not yet being in top shape. I think I can take on the race weekend without too many problems”.

Mackenzie: “These will be my first races as BSB champion”

The Donington races will mark the first time Tarran is competing with the number 1 plate: “I haven’t raced since Brands Hatch last year, so this will be the first weekend I’m attending as the current champion. This is why I’ve decided not to set myself a particular goal but to enjoy my return, riding as best I can. It will be fantastic to get back to doing what I love”.

As usual, the British Superbike riders will take on three races over the course of the weekend. The first will get underway on Saturday afternoon, at 17.30 CET, while Race 2 and Race 3 will run on Sunday, at 14.15 and 17.30 CET respectively.
