British Superbike was at Brands Hatch last weekend, and emotions were running high. Aside from the racing, which saw current champ Tarran Mackenzie back up front and scoring a double win, the weekend also saw the return of Brad Jones, one year after his terrible accident.

The 24-year old who hails from Stalbridge crashed early on in last year’s Race 1, sustaining serious injuries that put him in hospital for months and required significant rehabilitation. Fortunately, the rider is now doing well, so much so that he was able to get back in the saddle of a BMW M1000RR to make an emotional lap of the track in front of the many fans.

Jones: “Great to be back in the paddock, but to ride again...”

To be back at Brands Hatch a year on to the day was amazing, but to do a lap was the icing on the cake, commented Brad. “If you had told me that would happen whilst I was laid in the hospital, I would have thought that it was the medication I was on doing the talking! It was a surreal feeling and felt just like old times”.

The support has been overwhelming all the way through and that was backed up again yesterday”, admitted an emotional Jones. “All I have left to say is thank you to each and every person who has supported me, those close to me for keeping me motivated to keep pushing all the way through my rehab and to BSB for making the lap happen."
