Today’s Dakar stage involved a total of 588 km and a special of 430 km. The first part of the race saw riders climb to an elevation of 1300 m. The terrain was largely rocky with only short sandy stretches.

It was Mason Klein who triumphed today, crossing the line in 5h23’04”. The American rider’s time already includes a +02.00 penalty that he received for exceeding the maximum speed permitted through a particular section of the route.

Finishing just +01.09 behind him was the Hero Motorsport Buhler rider, followed by Howes (Husqvarna) who set a time of 5h24'17''. Branch just missed the ‘podium’ during this second stage, placing sixth in the ‘overall’ classification, +4'11'' from Klein. Toby Price rounded out the top five, which means he moves up in the general standings and now lies right behind current leader Klein.

Another rider in the spotlight right now is Joan Barreda, a consistent frontrunner who finished sixth today and now places third in the general standings. Ricky Brabec, the stage 1 winner and overall leader up until today, finished the 588 km in fifteenth place, a real blow for the American. Sanders did not have an ideal day either, crossing the line in 5h26’28” with his Gas Gas.
