SBK, world championship warm-up for Kawasaki at Aragón

The factory Provec team prepares for the season-opener with a two-day test at Motorland. Six-time champion Rea: "We’ll put all the pieces of the puzzle together”

On 20 and 21 April, the Provec KRT team will be back on track with its factory riders Johnny Rea and Alex Lowes. The green team, based in Barcelona, will be complete once more as it carries out important work on the two riders’ SBK Ninjas in Aragón.

it is the same Motorland circuit that will host the 2021 championship season-opener, the Alcañiz weather promising one of two extremes, either freezing cold or sweltering heat. Although this week it even looks as if it might rain, almost unheard of in the region.

If this is the case, the test will provide the number 1 and 22 riders with a chance to test wet set-ups for the first time. Until now, when they have seen rain, like at Jerez in January, the factory pair have preferred not to ride. But now that the championship is so close, every exit they make has different weighting.

Rea and Lowes: "So enthusiastic, we can’t wait to get back in the saddle"

Johnny and Alex are chomping at the bit, well aware that the new ZX-10RR is even more competitive and fast. The competition might be tougher than ever, but Provec KRT (once again) appears to be the most battle-ready.

The six-time champion is keen to start: "I’m really happy, as we’ll continue to work with what we had at the Barcelona test. I was comfortable on the new Ninja during that test. In terms of electronics, we still have some elements to test, but it’s all about putting the pieces of the puzzle together. We’ll take what we learned at the last test and work to our full potential, carrying our simulations to prepare for the opening Motorland round".

The "production-derived" Lowes brother is highly motivated: "I can’t wait to test. We’ll continue with the work programme we began at Jerez and then continued at Montmeló. I feel good physically and want to get a lot of laps in. We need to work on corner exits and I also need to perfect my riding style”.
