The Santerno circuit is keen to host the production-derived series again, with Imola circuit director Pietro Benvenuti present at Misano. A contract for next season would be highly desirable
Imola is not on the 2021 calendar, and it also failed to feature last year. We all know what happened after the Phillip Island season-opener, with Dorna forced to rearrange the calendar and even cancel several events. One of which was the ‘visit’ to the Enzo e Dino Ferrari track, a real mecca for bike fans and paddock staff alike.
So is there a chance of returning to Santerno? It appears so, and we very much hope so. Imola circuit director Pietro Benvenuti has met with Dorna bosses at Misano, to talk about an eventual round during the 2022 season.
The last time the production-derived bikes raced at Imola was in 2019. That weekend was seriously conditioned by the weather, inclement to say the least, which led to the cancellation of race 2 and various safety-related discussions. Nevertheless, all the riders are keen to return, and Dorna too. 2022 could well be the year.
