The start of the Finnish rider’s season aboard the F3 has been nothing short of disastrous, his speed having failed to translate into good results. The long break prior to Assen could come as a good thing
As the 2021 Supersport season got underway, it looked as if Niki Tuuli and the MV Agusta F3 could be a winning pair, able to fight seriously for both race wins and the title, and hold their own against the many Yamaha R6s that have dominated the 600 grid in recent years.
But since the Aragón incident that occurred while the Finnish rider was battling with Jules Cluzel for first place, something has changed and number 66 hasn’t been able to fight up front, with numerous crashes and technical issues with his Italian bike seriously conditioning both the Estoril and Misano rounds.
The first three rounds have thus had a disastrous bearing on the standings, with Tuuli down in fourteenth place with just twenty points to date, despite his undeniable speed on track.
Niki and his team need a complete “reset”, in order to get back on top and regain that consistency for which the rider stood out last year, when he finished the season as runner-up in the CEV Moto2 class.
The long break that the Supersport riders now have before the next round (taking place at Assen on 23-25 July) could be useful for Tuuli, allowing him to start over and make a fresh start as of the Dutch round.
