WorldSBK, Francis Batta won’t be at Donington

The Belgian manager has stayed at home in order to address some health issues. But his mind will be focused on the British round, in support of Alstare and Christophe Ponsson

The press release issued by team Alstare Yamaha unfortunately says it all - manager Francis Batta cannot travel to Donington Park for the fourth WorldSBK round. The Belgian boss is taking his doctor’s advice and will rest and undergo further check-ups after undergoing surgeries on both his heart and his shoulder in recent months.

Francis has previously attended the Aragón, Estoril and Misano rounds, supporting the work of the mechanics and rider Christophe Ponsson. But he was taken ill on returning home from the latest Italian round.

Fortunately he received immediate assistance and, once home, had the necessary medical check-ups. Batta’s personal cardiologist advises total rest and a break from travelling, hence no UK round.

Courageous heart

Batta’s passion is rare. While motorsport is his life, his emotional side often wins out. Yes, Francis loves motorcycling and adores watching the action live. He’s always done so and wants to continue.

But it’s better to hold off when it comes to Donington Park. The double coronary artery bypass surgery he underwent last November necessitates follow-up care. And so it’s best to avoid taking any risks and rest up before planning any more trips.

We hope he is soon back in the paddock and, in the meantime, the experienced Belgian will be cheering on the Alstare Yamaha team, a squad that he heads up, as he remains in close contact with the paddock. His heart will go where he cannot. The heart of a lion.
