SBK UK: Nozane out for the rest of the weekend

The Japanese GRT Yamaha rider has decided to pull out of the UK event due to an injury sustained during testing at Navarra. He will not be replaced by any of the BSB Yamaha riders

The GRT Yamaha team will continue with Garrett Gerloff as its sole rider for the rest of the British race weekend. Having completed a few laps during FP1, Kohta Nozane waved the white flag, still struggling after the accident he suffered at Navarra, in which he sustained a fracture to his right middle finger.

The Japanese rider has decided not to exacerbate the injury, preferring to rest up and ensure his own safety as well as that of the other riders. Kohta should be 100% fit for the Assen round, taking place on 23-25 July.

The two McAms Yamaha BSB riders, Jason O’Halloran and Tarran MacKenzie, were considered as possible substitutes but considering this weekend’s wet forecast and next weekend’s Knockhill BSB event, the team prefers not to take any risks.

The words of Andrea Dosoli

“We respect Kohta’s decision not to race this weekend. It’s tough for him of course, but we don’t want a situation where his injury worsens and he needs to miss more rounds”, comments Yamaha SBK project leader Andrea Dosoli.

"Considering the forecast for the upcoming weekend, the limited track time we could offer riders, and the fact the next BSB round is just a week away, we don’t think it’s fair or safe to ask our BSB riders to stand in for Kohta, particularly considering that Jason is leading the championship and that Tarran has also made a good start. So the GRT Yamaha team will use a bike for Garrett Gerloff, while we can’t wait to see Kohta back in time for the next Assen round”.
