The Yamaha rider has spoken about Donington, finding similarities with the layout of the Virginia and Pittsburgh tracks, but also talks about his recent experiences aboard the MotoGP and Superbike bikes
The first day of practice at Donington Park has finished in the best possible way for Garlett Gerloff who set the best time in FP2 to top the timesheets. The American set a fastest time of 1:27.524, to close 0.329 of a second ahead of Jonathan Rea.
“The start of the season wasn’t easy - comments Gerloff - as the track had very little grip. But in the second session things went a lot better and I could find the right rhythm. This track reminds me of some of the MotoAmerica tracks like Virginia and Pittsburgh. It’s just like being there. It’s great to be here, I’m really getting home vibes. And then they speak English”.
So this weekend could go well for the GRT Yamaha rider, who has analysed the track: “I really like it, especially the first section that really flows, while I struggled a little this morning through the final sector. But yes, it’s a great track and I’m excited”.
The American rider also talks about his recent MotoGP experience, standing in for Franco Morbidelli: “It’s the third track I’m learning in two weeks. Riding a bike I know, a Superbike I mean, is very different to riding a MotoGP of course. But sure, riding different bikes gives me extra motivation”.
