After much speculation, it’s now official - Scott Redding will be riding the BMW M1000RR in the 2022 WorldSBK championship.

Redding, 28, will thus embark on another new challenge after winning the BSB title in 2019 and riding for the Ducati factory team in 2020 and 2021. The Brit currently lies third in the general standings, 50 points from Jonathan Rea.

"Scott another reinforcement for our project"

“We have been following Scott’s career for a number of years and are delighted that he will now become a part of our team", comments team principal Shaun Muir. “His successes speak for themselves. With getting him on board, BMW Motorrad Motorsport once more underlines the huge importance of the WorldSBK project and the aim of establishing themselves at the very top.”

“We are very pleased to welcome Scott to our WorldSBK family”, continues Marc Bongers, Director of BMW Motorrad Motorsport. We are convinced that Scott, with his fighting spirit and absolute will to win, is the perfect new addition for the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team and another reinforcement for our entire WorldSBK project.”

 The market is buzzing

The same team has announced that “talks are currently underway" with a view to extending Tom Sykes’ contract, the 2013 world champion having moved to BMW in 2019.

Redding’s departure leaves a vacant seat at Ducati and, with Michael Ruben Rinaldi already confirmed, Alvaro Bautista looks to be the most likely candidate.
