Razgatlioglu: “I’m not thinking about the championship, only the race”

The leader will approach the San Juan Villicum round as if it were any event, flanked by his rookie team-mate, a stranger to the track

Despite Toprak Razgatlioglu having his first championship match point at the San Juan Villicum circuit this weekend, the Turk prefers not to think about the title but rather focus on each race at a track where he was on the podium in both 2019 and 2018 (with four third-place finishes). His team-mate Andrea Locatelli will have to get to grips with a new track but still sets himself significant targets.

A weekend like any other

The Argentinian track features some hard braking areas, a long straight and more flowing sections and Razgatlioglu admits: I like the circuit in San Juan, and had some podiums there before – but we will see. I always say, I am focused only on fighting for the win in the next race, the championship is still changing every weekend!” And yet, the Turk heads into the penultimate round with a 24-point lead over rival Jonathan Rea.

His mind remains focused on the upcoming weekend: The team are working hard to give me a good bike every time and every race, every session we are improving. We will work to find the best race set-up on Friday with race simulation in Free Practice and then we will see”.

A good first take?

With four podiums already under his belt, category rookie Andrea Locatelli is ready to add to his tally and fight for fourth place in the championship: Argentina is a completely new track for me, so we have some catching up to do but I think we can do very well there”, he comments.

It might all be new, but "Loka" remains as hungry as ever: “My goal is to close the gap to the front group and score some good points for the championship. For sure, it will not be easy because the competition is so strong, but we work so well together with the team”.
