Out goes a German and in comes an Italian. Puccetti Racing bids farewell to Phillip Oettl and welcomes Yari Montella, the latest recruit to the Kawasaki team headed up by Manuel. The manager was keen to hire the former CEV Moto2 champion who was competing in the world championship up until the San Marino round.

The 21-year old then took part in the Supersport round at Portimao, scoring points with team GMT94. That same weekend, the negotiations between the rider’s management and Puccetti got underway and soon gained momentum.

And now we have confirmation – young Yari and the very experienced Manuel will join forces in the 2022 championship, fielding a Ninja ZX-6R with various technical updates. The link between the team and the mother company is direct, so the green bikes entrusted to Montella and team-mate Can Oncu can be considered official.

An explosive Italy-Turkey combo

Yari has scored limited results in Moto2 but is keen to start over with even more determination: "I’m very pleased”, he comments, “because my aim, and that of my management team, was to find a high-level team and bike. In joining Puccetti, I can be sure I have a team that has a real racing pedigree, the victories scored in recent years speak for themselves".

Montella will be debuting with the four-cylinder Ninja: "I’ll train hard with a bike set up for the winter tests, so that I can immediately find good confidence. I can’t wait to start and will clock up the miles to understand the potential. I’m highly motivated and my mind’s already on 2022. I want to thank Manuel, the sponsors, my family and GRD, the management firm that continues to follow me with real commitment".

Puccetti, so adept at identifying new talent, has this to say: "I’ve been following young Montella for a long time and now we can finally say that we'll race together. We’ve gained a very interesting young talent and will do our best to help him prove himself. He and Can Oncu make up an explosive, promising duo, definitely two to watch".
