SBK, Razgatlioglu thinks again: no farewell to 54, and hello number 1© Toprak Razgatlioglu

On winning the title in Indonesia, Toprak had said he would do away with the number he inherited from Kenan Sofuoglu in favour of the number 1. But to kill two birds with one stone, the Turk will ride with both on the 2022 Yamaha

Happy like never before, surrounded by journalists and grinning from ear to ear, Toprak Razgatlioglu had said: "I’ve always used 54, because that was Kenan Sofuoglu’s number. I really like it, but it’s also true that Yamaha has never run with the number 1 in SBK. So I’ll do that next year".

This is what he had to say at Mandalika, after which he returned home to an array of celebrations and ceremonies. But since being home, the Turk has clearly reflected and had a rethink.

Razgatlioglu, a heart divided

Knowing him as we do, we can imagine that Toprak is keen to please everyone, or rather Sofuoglu and Yamaha, both of which have supported him in his fight for the production-derived title. And so we can understand why the 25-year old may want to kill two birds with one stone.

Honouring sultan Kenan while also paying tribute to the Iwata manufacturer. Perfect. And all while maintaining a certain style, because the new graphics feature blue details to match his R1, the colour of the best medal, or rather gold, his national flag and… the number 1, the number of champions.
