As reported by Motosprint a couple of days ago, the puzzle is now complete. After a two-year absence, Althea Racing is set to return to the Superbike World Championship, or the new-look Supersport category to be precise, re-establishing its connection with Ducati and fielding rider Federico Caricasulo. Having ridden the Yamaha in this year’s Supersport and CIV championships, Federico will take to the track with the Panigale V2 955 during the first 2022 tests in January.

In the words of Caricasulo and Bevilacqua

The official announcement brings some initial words from the Italian rider, a Fiamme Oro athlete, and the team manager.

Federico Caricasulo states: “I’m really pleased with the opportunity Genesio has offered me. It was unexpected, and I was quick to accept because it’s a winning project with a team that needs no introductions and that I’ve followed also as a fan. I like the idea of being the team’s only rider and think it’s the best situation in which to aim for certain results. After five years with Yamaha, in which I think I’ve really grown, it’s important for me to take on a new challenge that gives me the right motivation. I still have unfinished business in this category, and so my only goal is to improve on past results”.

While Genesio Bevilacqua adds: “Althea didn’t need to return but I’ve chosen to do so because I deem this Supersport to be the category of the future. We have everything we need to achieve what has always been our only goal – to win, bringing our experience and our ability as we battle with the best. This Supersport and the new regulation offer the production-derived series a real opportunity for relaunch. It seems designed to put us to the test. Competition is in our DNA and that’s why we want to be there”.
