WorldSBK: Tarran Mackenzie’s world championship debut postponed

The 2022 season has got off to an uphill start for Tarran Mackenzie, who will miss the first events of the year due to injury sustained during British Superbike testing at Silverstone. The Scottish rider, the current British champion, has undergone surgery at Nottingham hospital after fracturing his left ankle during a high-speed crash. He unfortunately won’t recover in time for the season-opener.

The BSB championship will get underway this very weekend in fact, at Silverstone (in its National configuration), but the team McAMS rider won’t be able to line up to defend his title. #95 hopes to be able to return for round two, set to take place at Oulton Park on 1-2 May, considering that he’ll also have to miss the WorldSBK round at Assen, where he was scheduled to race as a wildcard. An appearance that is now postponed until later in the season, aboard the Yamaha of Steve Rodgers’ team.

Mackenzie: “I’m already focusing on my recovery”

Following surgery, Tarran looks to be determined to get back on his back as soon as possible: I’m clearly disappointed to have to watch the first BSB round from home and not race in the world championship, especially because I felt really good on the bike during the first tests. The operation’s gone well, and I’m already focusing on my recovery. I’m about to start physio so that I can back on my back very soon. But for now, all I can do is cheer on my team and wish them all the best for the Silverstone round”.
