The final WorldSBK round of the 2022 season will play out this weekend, with the series returning to the Australian track of Phillip Island for the first time since 2020. Although the riders’ title has already been won by Alvaro Bautista at Mandalika, the fight for the constructors’ title is still very much alive, with Ducati once again leading the way. We analyse the situation ahead of this final round.

Ducati ready to celebrate again

With a 49-point lead over Yamaha, it should be nothing more than a formality for Ducati to secure the constructors’ title this weekend. For staff in Borgo Panigale, this would be the cherry on the cake at the end of an incredible year that has seen the manufacturer win with Bautista in SBK and with Bagnaia in MotoGP, as well as triumphing in the constructors’ and teams’ categories in the world championship.

As for WorldSBK, Yamaha and Kawasaki currently lie second and third in the manufacturers’ standings, a situation that confirms what we’ve seen on track this season, a dominant Bautista chased by a Razgatlioglu who, aboard the R1, has often crossed the line ahead of Rea on the Ninja ZX-10RR.

There is a much closer battle between Honda and BMW for fourth, the Japanese manufacturer currently ahead but by just three points. It hasn’t been an easy year for either brand, but this final round will constitute a real ‘head-to-head’. BMW arrives as the favourite, considering the current form of riders Redding and Van Der Mark, while Honda can count on Vierge but not on Lecuona, who sustained injury in Indonesia.
