Lecuona ready for Barcelona, but warns: “I’ll have to get used to SBK again”

Iker will be aiming high at one of his favourite tracks, where he set pole last year, but he’ll need to find the right confidence with the production-derived bike

With Marc Marquez still absent, the factory HCR team called on Iker Lecuona to compete in last weekend’s Spanish MotoGP at Jerez de la Frontera. Just a few days later and the Spaniard is already ready to get back on the production-derived bike for his home Superbike round, taking place this weekend at Barcelona. But first he’ll need to complete a few laps to regain confidence with the factory CBR1000RR-R and the Pirelli tyres.

Lecuona aims high at Barcelona

“I’ve had some pretty busy days and now feel good and ready to jump on the Honda CBR1000RR-R for the next WorldSBK weekend in Barcelona”, commented Iker, aware that he will have to get used to a few things again. “I once again wish to thank everyone at HRC for allowing me to compete in the MotoGP at Jerez, but I think I will need the first few laps in FP1 in Montmeló to regain the feeling with my bike and Pirelli tyres.”

But this does not mean that Lecuona is any less optimistic, the Spaniard convinced he can do well: “I’m very excited to race in Catalunya, also because we completed some very good tests there recently. So we will see if we can repeat that performance over the race weekend, particularly during the second half of the race, an area where we struggled a lot last year and on which we worked a lot in testing, with promising results.”
